ASTRO -NOT
The universe is not out of reach — you can achieve it too.
ASTRO-NOT is building India's next-generation astronomy education and research platform where students learn space science, analyze real data, join expert-led webinars, build projects, and work with mentors on research-driven ideas.
ASTRO-NOT's Vision reel
HR Diagram Student Workshop
A beginner-friendly astronomy project to understand how stars are classified by temperature, brightness, colour, and life stage.
Welcome to the ASTRO-NOT HR Diagram Workshop — a beginner-friendly astronomy project designed for students and curious learners who want to understand how astronomers study the life cycle of stars.
Students will explore the Hertzsprung–Russell Diagram, one of the most important tools in astrophysics, and learn how stars are classified by surface temperature, luminosity, colour, and evolutionary stage. You will identify the key regions of the HR Diagram — Main Sequence, Red Giants, Supergiants, and White Dwarfs — and understand how stars are born, live, and evolve.
What Students Will Learn
- What the HR Diagram is and why it matters in astronomy
- How stars are classified by temperature, brightness & colour
- Where the Sun is located on the HR Diagram
- Main Sequence stars, Red Giants, Supergiants & White Dwarfs
- How the HR Diagram explains stellar evolution
- How to build a complete HR Diagram project step by step
Choose Your Learning Track
Pen & Paper
Draw and understand the HR Diagram manually using a simple, intuitive graph-based approach.
Excel Sheet
Organize real star data and create your own HR Diagram inside Microsoft Excel.
Python + Google Colab
Code an HR Diagram using Python in Google Colab — no prior coding experience required.
